John Mayer

John Mayer is a man of diverse talents, though primarily known worldwide for his music. Heavily influenced by the blues even though his early leaning was towards acoustic rock, singer and songwriter Mayer is today one of the leading lights of the American music industry, with multiple awards and accolades under his belt. He won his first Grammy award in 2003 for “Your Body Is a Wonderland”, in the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance category. “Daughters” brought him his second Grammy in the same category in 2005, as well as for Song of the Year. In 2007 Mayer’s album Continuum fetched him his fourth Grammy as the Best Pop Vocal Album, while “Waiting on the World to Change” let him take home the award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. He won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance again in 2008 for “Say”, while 2009 saw him lift the Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for “Gravity”. Mayer has also won/been nominated for numerous other awards like the MTV Video Music Awards, Radio Music Awards, People's Choice Awards, World Music Awards, VH1 Big in 2002 Awards, Orville H. Gibson Guitar Awards, Annual Boston Music Awards, and Annual ASCAP Awards, among others.

Born on October 16, 1977 in Bridgeport and raised in Fairfield, both in Connecticut, Mayer was fascinated with the genius of Stevie Ray Vaughan from an early age. He worked at a gas station after graduation and saved up money for a 1996 Stevie Ray Vaughan signature Stratocaster. Mayer studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston for a while and then moved to Atlanta. It was in 2005 that he discovered his love for the blues, thanks to his collaboration with bluesmen like Buddy Guy and B.B King, and Eric Clapton. He also formed his band the John Mayer Trio in 2005. Apart from his band, Mayer has toured/performed with Sheryl Crow, Kanye West, Maroon 5, Counting Crows, Train, The Wallflowers and many others. Both Martin Guitars and Fender have released John Mayer signature guitars, with significant design inputs from the artist himself. Mayer is an avid blogger and shares details of his personal and professional life with his fans. His many television appearances include a half-hour comedy special on VH1 called John Mayer Has a TV Show.  He also designs the merchandise available at his online store, and is involved in a number of philanthropic activities.
